If we want to make better decisions we need to know more information about the clothes we wear.

In the new era of the sustainability, at Kimoa we have introduced a wide selection of innovative materials that are more eco-friendly.

SUNGLASSES

-BIO-ACETATE: the innovative eco-friendly material used for the manufacture of our sunglasses.

Bio-acetate is a declination of the original acetate, that derives from cotton, improved thanks to its more eco- friendly version since it is entirely made of organic material.

In the manufacturing process the additional petroleum components used in the past, are replaced by organic additives that bind to cellulose acetate. The combination of both raw materials of natural origin gives a biodegradable material with less impact on the planet.

Strong, aesthetic, with a gloss finish and infinity of colors, the models Sidney Sunrise and Whitsundays can boast of being the first 100% sustainable Kimoa sunglasses. But surely they will not be the last. Following the company's philosophy, the objective set for 2021 is to have the entire collection in sustainable materials. Joining the textile and caps, categories that are already totally responsible with the environment.

TEXTILES

- RECYCLED HILATURES:

The mix of recycled fibers such as recycled cotton, polyester from recycling post-consumer PET bottles, together with virgin fibers such as organic cotton, result in a wide range of yarns used in Kimoa garments.

The recycled yarns, apart from being very resistant to the passage of time, washes and the most corrosive agents, are in turn recyclable. In this way the important circle in “circular fashion” is closed to become absolutely sustainable.

-RECYCLED POLYESTER: PET is polyethylene terephthalate, a type of plastic derived from petroleum used to make soft drink bottles. Using recycled PET bottles, we create recycled PET polyester. The quality of recycled polyester is as good as virgin polyester – it is very resilient, quick drying, and easy to wash while keeping its shape.

Every year, approx. 10 million tonnes of plastic waste are making their way into the oceans, the equivalent of one truckload of garbage being tipped into the sea every minute.

Compared to using virgin polyester, using recycled polyester reduces carbon emissions by 37%.

Did you know?

For every Kimoa Sweatshirt made of recycled polyester 26 plastic bottles of 0,6 L are used, more than 10 L of water are saved and 16 Kg of CO2 emissions are avoided. For every Kimoa Tee made of recycled polyester 16,1 plastic bottles of 0,6 l are used, more than 6,2 l of water are saved and 9,5 Kg of CO2 emissions are avoided. For every Kimoa Cap made of recycled polyester 5 plastic bottles of 0,6 l are used, more than 2 l of water are saved and 5 Kg of CO2 emissions are avoided.

-ORGANIC COTTON:

The cotton that receives this attribute is due to its particular conditions when it is grown without the use of insecticides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Of course, toxic substances are also excluded in the spinning or bleaching processes.

Cultivating any plant takes a lot of effort. Tens of millions of farmers rely on cotton for their livelihood. The world’s cotton also requires billions of tons of fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and billions of gallons of water. It creates quite a large environmental footprint. That’s why we’re aiming to change the system and ensure the cotton we source is grown more sustainably.

For its care, it is recommended not to wash at more than 30ºC and avoid dryers to ensure its longest and best conservation.

At Kimoa the use of organic cotton came in the 2018 collection and since then it has been present, sharing the limelight with recycled PET, thus making Kimoa a 100% sustainable brand.
